Privacy Policy

What We Collect

Symmer collects the minimum information needed to operate the service:

• Names — first name or nickname provided when creating or joining a capsule.
• Email addresses — when voluntarily provided for reminders, capsule delivery, or account registration.
• Answers — your responses to capsule prompts, stored encrypted until the unlock date.
• Account information — if you create an account, we store your email, optional display name, and notification preferences.
• Usage data — page views, events, and interactions collected via PostHog analytics (see below). No advertising or third-party tracking.
• Contact form submissions — name, email, and message content when you use our contact form.

How We Use Your Data

• To deliver capsule reminders, edit links, and unlock notifications to your email.
• To display your answers to other capsule participants on the unlock date.
• To power your account dashboard and participation history, if you create an account.
• To understand how the Service is used so we can improve it (via aggregated analytics).
• If you opt in, to send occasional updates about new Symmer features.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Analytics

We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog collects anonymized usage events (such as page views and feature interactions) to help us understand how the Service is used. We do not use advertising cookies or behavioral targeting. PostHog data is processed under PostHog’s Privacy Policy.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS infrastructure). Sensitive tokens are hashed before storage. All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption. We retain capsule data for the duration of the capsule lifecycle plus a reasonable grace period, after which it may be permanently deleted. Contact form submissions are stored securely and deleted after they have been addressed.

Anonymous Capsules

Symmer allows capsule creation without an account (“anonymous mode”). In this case, we do not require or store an email address for the capsule host. Capsule management is handled via secure short-lived links. We still collect usage data as described above.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us via our contact page. We will process requests within 30 days. Account holders may also update their profile information and notification preferences directly from their account settings.

Cookies & Local Storage

Symmer uses essential session cookies required to keep you authenticated. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Local storage may be used to preserve your progress within an active capsule session.

Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
